Education in culture of peace to prevent violence in the UMSNH Law degree
Abstract
The integral training of legal professionals in Mexico—including at state public universities such as the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo —is undergoing a transformation in the legal paradigm, shifting from the traditional adversarial approach to litigation toward adopting a culture of peace as the guide´s principle of justice. This progressive change is not only pedagogical and ethical but also grounded in the Mexican legal system; among other laws, it is based on article 3° of the Federal Constitution and derived legislation, such as the General Law of Education, the General Law of Higher Education, and the General Law of Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms, which mandate the promotion of non-violent conflicts resolution. Contributing to comprehensive training with a human rights approach, a ludic didactic proposal is presented for implementation in the Introduction to Legal Theory course for first-semester law students at the Universidad Michoacana; this didactic proposal can be adapted and enhanced in other educational settings.
